Joe Giarrusso wants to show New Orleans that public officials can truly be public servants again. Born in New Orleans, Joe is married to Cassie Giarrusso and the father of two young daughters in public school. Joe is stepping up to champion a better future for our community as our next District A Councilmember. And he isn’t just running to win – he’s running to make a difference. Joe will be an independent-minded change agent on our City Council laser-focused on safe neighborhoods, better streets, and a stronger local economy.
Both as a lawyer and citizen, Joe Giarrusso has been recognized as one of New Orleans’ rising leaders. He’s already stepped up to serve our community in a number of important positions: as an Executive Committee and Board Member of the Bureau of Governmental Research; as a past Chair of the Young Leadership Council; as President of KIPP New Orleans Schools; and as immediate past president of his neighborhood association, Lakeview Civic Association.
As a lawyer, Joe’s commitment to his craft and his work ethic have clearly paid off. He’s earned the rank of partner and shareholder at the well-respected New Orleans firm of Liskow & Lewis. Joe’s been recognized by his peers as a among “the Best Lawyers in America,” and has been chosen as Chair of the New Orleans’ Bar’s Oil and Gas section. Unsurprisingly, CityBusiness named Joe a “Leader in Law.”
Joe grew up and went to high school in District A. He was an honors graduate from Jesuit High School and later graduated in three and a half years from the University of Texas with high honors. Joe went on to earn an LSU law degree in 2001 where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review and finished in the top five percent of his class.
Joe’s built a strong reputation in our city through his dedication to and compassion for his community. Now he wants to offer his energy and passion to make our communities better, to empower and engage his neighbors, and to truly serve the public.
